2019, 'we are nature' - Study of the relationship between humanity and nature

'All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man...
the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.'

' Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it.
What ever he does to the web, he does to himself.
'

Quotes from Chief Seattle (1786 - 1866) - chief of ‘Dkhw’Duw’Absh’ and ‘Suquamish’ tribes of Native Americans.

we are nature

The words of Chief Seattle find increasing interest in current times.
Nature is not a separate entity from us. We are nature. What ever we do to nature, we do to our selves.

At the start of 2019 willem van hest initiated a study amongst a group of artists to rethink our relationship with nature,
resulting in an exhibition at the end of the year. During 2019 I have been studying ways to express the relationship
between nature and humanity, together with artist Jolanda Peeters in light of the growing awareness of the devastating
influence of our way of living on the world climate.
In what we call the 'Western' world there is a growing awareness that 'we are nature'. We are living within the context
of nature. Nature is growing within us.

Nature is not a separate entity from us: 'we are nature'.
